In the early days of the last century, every town in America featured a community band which was a source of civic pride for the community. The tradition stemmed from the popularity of military bands in the mold of the band of John Phillip Sousa. They thrilled the nation and the world with stirring marches, overtures, and popular songs.
With a rigorous concert schedule, the Pineland Symphonic Band continues the grand tradition of community bands.
The PSB, formerly the "Crestwood Symphonette", is a symphonic wind ensemble that has been providing high-quality musical entertainment for Ocean County residents in New Jersey for over thirty years. Each season, the band performs for community groups, retirement communities, civic events, and public schools in Ocean County and beyond.
The Pineland Symphonic Band is composed of virtuoso-quality instrumentalists including former members of the Marine Band, Army ensembles, symphonies, music teachers, and other music enthusiasts who volunteer their time and talents to make the Pineland Symphonic Band the best in the symphonic band tradition.
Today, the PSB is under the direction of Karen Hedden, a brass specialist with over 40 years of experience in music education, adjudication, and performance. She leads our ensemble as we bring to life the stories and emotions that resonate within every note, creating a journey that transcends time and touches hearts.
